Camille Rutherford is another Bahamian sprinter to run 100m under 11 sec

Athletics News . Sprints News Article

Bahamian sprinters have continued to impress this season, and the prospect of a very fast relay team with a chance of qualifying for the World Championships now looks promising.

Camille Rutherford became the Bahamas’ second sub-11-second athlete, clocking a personal best of 10.96 sec at a race in Ontario, Canada.

Camille Rutherford, who lives and trains in Houston, finished second behind Canadian sprinter Sade McCreath, who won in 10.95 sec. American athlete Semira Killebrew finished third in 10.99 sec. Camille Rutherford ran a wind-assisted 11.02 sec in qualifying. A week earlier, she ran a wind-assisted 11.07 sec.

With this stunning time in the final, Camille Rutherford moves into the top 10 in women’s sprint history in the Bahamas. She is now tied for sixth fastest in Bahamian history with Eldece Clarke-Lewis.

Just two weekends ago, Anthaya Charlton became the second fastest woman in Bahamian history, clocking 10.87 sec in the 100m semifinals in Eugene.

Both Anthaya Charlton and Camille Rutherford have already qualified for the World Championships, and the prospect of a very fast Bahamian women’s sprint relay team looks very promising. The qualifying time for the women’s 100m for the World Championships in Tokyo is 11.07 sec.
