Chase Jackson broke her own US record in the shot put at the Idaho Meeting
Two-time world champion Chase Jackson broke her own US record in the shot put at the Idaho Meeting to 20.95m. Her winning throw came in the first round. She registered only one other valid attempt of 20.45m. Maggie Ewen came second with 19.69m, seven centimeters ahead of Jaida Ross.
Chase Jackson’s winning mark not only added 19 centimeters to the US record, but it is also the furthest throw in the world, indoors or outdoors, since August 2013. The 30-year-old American track and field athlete is now just one centimeter from the North American record of 20.96m, set by Cuba’s athlete Belsy Laza in 1992.
“I know I still have a lot left in the tank”, posted Chase Jackson on Instagram shortly after the competition.
World and Olympic finalist Payton Otterdahl won the men’s shot put with a season-best 22.09m. Roger Steen finished second with 21.68m.
DeAnna Price, the 2019 world champion, dominated the women’s hammer throw with 76.82m, winning by more than three metres over Olympic silver medallist Annette Echikunwoke (73.31m).
World champion Laulauga Tausaga produced one of the best throws of her career to win a high-profile discus throw event. She threw 66.59m to beat Gabi Jacobs (65.66m) and Veronica Fraley (64.64m).
