Emmanouil Karalis cleared 6.08m to fourth place in the all-time pole vault rankings
The world pole vault rankings were rewritten at the Greek Championships after European indoor champion Emmanouil Karalis cleared 6.08m.
Six days after he attacked 6.11m at the same stadium during the Balkan Championships, Emmanouil Karalis cleared 5.92m on his third attempt before heading for 6.08m – a height conquered by only three athletes in history before tonight, all Olympic champions and world record holders.
After missing the height on his first attempt, Emmanouil Karalis flew over 6.08m on his second, improving his personal best and the Greek national record, and celebrated wildly in front of his home crowd in Volos.
With this result, Emmanouil Karalis climbs to fourth place in the all-time rankings, behind former world record holders Sergey Bubka (6.15m) and Renaud Lavillenie (6.16m), as well as current world record holder Armand Duplantis (6.28m).
