Faith Cherotich threatens Winfred Yavi for rematch in Tokyo
Olympic bronze medalist in the 3,000m steeplechase, Faith Cherotich, has made her ambitions known following her victory at the Diamond League final in Zurich. The young athlete from Kenya, who recorded a time of 8:57.24 minutes on Thursday evening, stated that her next goal is to seek revenge against Olympic champion Winfred Yavi when they compete in Tokyo.
Faith Cherotich’s success in Zurich, where she outperformed Kazakhstan’s Norah Jeruto (9:10.87) and Tunisia’s Marwa Bouzayani (9:12.03), was not only a moment of celebration but also a commitment to future achievements.
“I’m aiming for the gold at the World Championships. It’s not easy, but I want that world title”, said Faith Cherotich minutes after her victory.
Faith Cherotich revealed that she had been suffering from a cold before the race in Zurich and admitted that she had not expected to win.
“I did not expect to win because I was very weak; I had a cold, but I decided to push myself”, she explained.
