Faith Cherotich won the women’s 3,000m steeplechase gold at the XXIII Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Faith Cherotich won the women’s 3,000m steeplechase gold at the XXIII Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Kenyan runner clocked 9:01.76 min to grab the title and set a new Commonwealth Games record. She was almost than four seconds ahead of the British runner Elise Thorner.

The 2025 World champion and Paris 2024 Olympics bronze medalist in the event, Faith Cherotich, executed a composed race plan, staying within reach of the leading pack before producing a decisive burst after the final water jump to pull clear of her rivals.

“I ran my race, and I was not looking back. The only tactic I had was to win the race, nothing else”, said Faith Cherotich after the victory.

The silver was for Elise Thorner, who clocked 9:05.45 min, while the bronze went to Peruth Chemutai (Uganda), who ran the distance in 9:09.96 min. The rest competitors were far behind the leading group, as Cara Feain-Ryan finished fourth in 9:22.07 min and Parul Chaudhary (India) was fifth in 9:26.75 min.

Faith Cherotich is one of the biggest stars in 3,000m steeplechase. She is a two-time Diamond League Final winner, 2025 World champion, and 2022 World U20 champion. Earlier in the season, she won the Eugene Diamond League’s Prefontaine Classic and grabbed podiums at the Wanda Diamond League Xiamen and Shaoxing/Keqiao.
