Faith Kipyegon hints for bold career change after the World Athletics Championships
Three-time Olympics 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon is constantly striving for new heights, hinting at a major career change.
From chasing a sub-four-minute a mile to planning her upcoming marathon debut, the Kenyan star is brimming with motivation. But her main driving force is inspiring others, especially her seven-year-old daughter and the next generation of female athletes.
Already considered one of the greatest distance runners of all time, Faith Kipyegon’s hunger for achievement remains insatiable. Her busy schedule includes a 3,000m world record attempt at the Diamond League in Silesia on August 16, followed by defending her 1,500m and 5,000m titles at the World Championships in Tokyo. Faith Kipyegon plans to finish her season at the Women’s ATHLOS NYC in October.
Despite her busy schedule, Faith Kipyegon seemed relaxed and cheerful during a recent World Athletics video call, as reported by Athletics Weekly. While still in top form, Faith Kipyegon is already looking towards the marathon.
“I don’t know when I’ll switch to the road”, she admitted, “but hopefully soon. I’m not getting any younger. I’ll announce it after the World Championships”.
The four-time world champion is hoping to add more medals to her collection in Tokyo. Reflecting on her silver medal in Doha in 2019, after returning from maternity leave, she admitted it was a life-changing experience. “Doha made me who I am today. Winning silver after giving birth made me stronger, made me believe that I can still win medals and break records”, she revealed.
As for the 3,000m in Silesia, Faith Kipyegon is aiming to improve her personal best and potentially challenge the long-standing world record. “I’m going to dare to try”, she said. “It’s always better to try than not to try”, added she.
“It’s a mindset”, she explained when asked how she maintains her high standards. “It’s about preparation, patience and what you want to achieve so that the next generation can be inspired by you”, finished Faith Kipyegon.
