Femke Bol heads the “golden generation” of Team Netherlands for the European Team Championship
After remaining undefeated in the 400m hurdles since the start of the season, Femke Bol will return to the 400m at the European Athletics Team Championships First Division in Madrid, which will be held from June 27 to 29.
She is leading one of the strongest Dutch teams in history, announced on Tuesday (June 17).
“We were all very proud to represent our country in Paris. We were also very enthusiastic about the performance of the European countries”, said Femke Bol on the eve of her latest Diamond League victory in Stockholm on Sunday (June 15). “We are performing so well because in this golden generation we have so many great athletes, like Jessica Schilder, but also Niels Laros in the long runs. We are achieving great results. I think this is the moment to show that our country is doing great, also in the diversity of track disciplines. I can’t wait to be there and hopefully bring all the points for my team”, added she.
The Dutch team includes seven gold medalists from the 2025 European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn. In addition to Femke Bol, the team includes Lieke Klaver (women’s 200m), Cathelijn Peeters (women’s 400m hurdles), Jessica Schilder (women’s shot put), Nick Smidt (men’s 400m hurdles), Samuel Chapple (800m) and Menno Vloon (men’s pole vault).
The Netherlands’ best performance at the European Athletics Team Championships was in Silesia in 2023, where Lieke Klaver (200m), Femke Bol (400m), Menno Vloon (pole vault) and the women’s 4x100m relay brought maximum points for the Dutch team.
