Gout Gout claimed his first international men’s race victory in 200m at Golden Spike Ostrava
Talented Australian sprinter Gout Gout has claimed his first international men’s race victory, giving a glimpse of what’s to come later this season and in the years to come.
Cuban sprinter Reynier Mena started strongly in the men’s 200m at the Golden Spike in Ostrava and took the lead midway through the race, but Gout Gout pulled away to cross the finish line in 20.02 sec (0.0 m/s), 0.02 better than the Oceania record he set in December. Reynier Mena finished second in 20.19 sec.
The bronze at the 64th Ostrava Golden Spike in men’s 200m was for Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake (Great Britain) with 20.60 sec.
The Gout Gout’s record came just half an hour after Nagmeldin “Peter” Bol narrowly missed out on breaking an Oceania record in the men’s 800m. The Australian won in 1:43.80 min, just 0.01 sec off his own continental record, finishing ahead of Croatia’s Marino Bloudek, who set a national record of 1:44.02 min.
World champion Neeraj Chopra made a successful debut at the Golden Spike, winning the men’s javelin with a throw of 85.29m on his third attempt.
In the women’s javelin, Adriana Vilagos (Serbia) edged out Olympic champion Haruka Kitaguchi (Japan) with a throw of 64.87m to 63.88m.
