
Gudaf Tsegay won the 1,500m world indoor gold with a new meeting record
Ethiopian long-distance runner Gudaf Tsegay made an outstanding solo run to win the women’s 1,500m title at the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China. Gudaf Tsegay won the gold medal in a new meeting record of 3:54.86 min. This was her second indoor 1,500m world title after Belgrade 2022. She also has a world silver medal in the 3,000m in Glasgow last year and a bronze in the 1,500m from Portland 2016.
Her compatriot Diribe Welteji won the silver medal in 3:59.30 min.
Georgia Hunter Bell won her second bronze in China after stepping on the podium in the 3,000m event. The Briton recorded a personal best of 3:59.84 min for third place in the 1,500m, making her only the third British woman to win a medal at the World Indoor Championships in this event.
With Gudaf Tsegay’s victory in the 1,500m, the Ethiopian won the title in the discipline at the fourth consecutive planetary indoor forum.
