Hamish Kerr will defend his world high jump title in Nanjing
Hamish Kerr will defend his high jump title as part of a 12-strong New Zealand team named for the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing. The squad for the event in China, which will be held from 21-23 March, is the largest ever named for New Zealand at a global indoor championship.
Hamish Kerr cleared 2.36m to win his world indoor title in Glasgow last year and then went on to become Olympic champion in Paris with the same height. So far this season, he has jumped 2.30m and recently won the national title.
He will be joined in Nanjing by Tom Walsh, who will be looking to add another to the impressive five shot put medals he has already won at the world indoor championships.
The 2017 world champion, who is also a two-time Olympic bronze medalist, won world indoor gold in 2016 and 2018, and secured silver in Glasgow last year, as well as bronze in 2014 and 2022.
