Hellen Obiri prepares for hat trick at Boston Marathon
Two-time Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri believes the hilly terrain of Ngong, Kajiado County, will greatly enhance her ability to defend her title in April.
Hellen Obiri has returned to Kenya to prepare for the Boston Marathon, scheduled for April 21, where she will be aiming to win a third consecutive title and join Fatuma Roba as the only runners to have won a consecutive treble since the Ethiopian’s success from 1997 to 1999.
To do so, the 2023 New York City Marathon champion believes she will need to do a variety of different types of training and has laid out a complex 12-week plan that she believes will leave her in great shape for another victory.
“I’m excited to be back home for the first time since June. It will take me about 12 weeks to train for Boston, and the training regime and the pitches in Ngong will be crucial to my hat-trick campaign”, said Hellen Obiri. “I am ready for Boston, but being ready also requires me to work extra hard. I will have to do something extra in training to make things easier for myself, but believing in myself is also the key to my success”, added she.
