Ivana Spanovic will compete only in the triple jump at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships
Ivana Spanovic has decided to compete only in the triple jump at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships, which means she will not defend her title won two years ago in the long jump. The most successful Serbian athlete announced her decision on social media.
“The last long jump competition hits different. We decided not to compete at Tokyo in long jump where I suppose to defend my world champion title instead, I will compete only in triple jump. I’m happy to say that I’m healthy and very confident and excited about triple jump journey. I was waiting 10 years for a green light to compete”, wrote the 35-year-old Ivana Spanovic on Instagram.
Therefore, the Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix’s Gyulai Istvan Memorial was the veteran’s last competition in the event in which she became famous.
The World Championships in Tokyo are from September 13 to 21.
We remind you that with her gold in Budapest in 2023, Ivana Spanovic added to her collection of the most valuable awards from world and European championships – both outdoors and indoors – in the long jump. Last year, she had major problems with an injury, which is why she was unable to achieve the desired result at the Paris Olympics in the long jump. And yet, she did not want to say goodbye in this way. In the triple jump, she debuted this season in the Diamond League, after which she continued to compete in this discipline.
