Jakob Ingebrigtsen could become the most successful athlete at the European Indoor Championships
Norwegian long-distance runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen is aiming for even greater continental success at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn from March 6 to 9. The Norwegian, who won his third European Cross Country title in the men’s event in his last competition last month, is planning a short indoor season. His main target this winter is the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen already has five gold medals at the European Indoor Championships and if he defends his 1,500m and 3,000m titles in March, he will become the most successful man in the history of the championships alongside Soviet sprinter Valeriy Borzov, who won seven gold medals between 1970 and 1977.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the 1,500m and 3,000m titles at the continental forums in 2021 and 2023, along with gold in the 3,000m and silver in the 1,500m as a junior in Glasgow 2019.
Thanks in no small part to Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s success, Norway topped the medal table for the first time in history at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul two years ago, winning a total of four gold medals.
Also taking home titles for Norway at the time were Karsten Warholm in the 400m and Sondre Guttormsen in the pole vault.
