Jakub Szymanski aims to defend his 60m hurdles European title in Valencia
Reigning European 60m hurdles champion Jakub Szymanski is aiming to defend his title at the 2027 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Valencia, which will be held from March 4 to 7 next year.
The Pole, who won the 60m hurdles gold in Apeldoorn in 2025, later triumphed in March with the indoor world title in front of a ecstatic home crowd in Toruń. He then went on to win his first major outdoor medal, winning bronze in the 110m hurdles at the 2026 European Championships in Birmingham.
“My biggest goal is to defend my European indoor title in Valencia”, said Jakub . “This is my main priority. If I succeed, I will have the chance to fight for another defense in 2029. There is already talk that Poland could host these championships and the event could return to Toruń, which would be great”, added he.
Jakub Szymanski is also looking with great confidence towards outdoor competitions after his breakthrough at the championships in Birmingham.
“I reached a high level in the 110m hurdles and won a bronze medal in Birmingham. For me, this is a real turning point in my career and I hope it will be the first of many medals at this distance. Fans often expected the same results from me outdoors that I achieved indoors. Before, I was unable to justify these hopes, but this year has become a turning point. I have proven my capabilities and I believe that my outdoor performances will now match my indoor ones. I hope to just enjoy myself along the way”, added Jakub Szymanski.
