Julien Alfred withdrew from the 200m final in Tokyo due to injury
Olympics 100m champion Julien Alfred (Santa Lucia) has withdrawn from the 200m final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo due to a thigh injury. The 24-year-old athlete, who won a silver medal in the 200m at the Paris 2024 Olympics, won bronze in the 100m at the championships in Tokyo yesterday, but after the final in the event she announced that she had been suffering from a muscle problem all season and had felt discomfort during the run, which prevented her from showing her best.
The medical tests showed a grade one muscle strain, which is why she is forced to withdraw from the 200m competition.
“It’s very risky because if she starts, the injury could get significantly worse. That’s why her season is over and rehabilitation begins immediately. We’re looking forward to 2026”, said Julien Alfred’s agent Henry Rolle.
Julien Alfred is the season’s world leader in the 200m with a time of 21.71 sec, which she achieved at the London Diamond League in July, where grabbed the gold. During the season she won the 200m event at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida, as well as 75. Boris Hanzekovic Memorial in Zagreb.
