Kristjan Ceh won the men’s discus throw at the Dinamo Zrinjevac International Athletics Meeting
Kristjan Ceh unleashed a masterclass performance to capture victory in the men’s discus throw at the Dinamo Zrinjevac International Athletics Meeting, held on September 8, 2026. Staged at the Sports Park Mladost in Zagreb, Croatia, the event stood out as a premier throws attraction within the World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger series. The Slovenian giant and former World Champion dominated the competition field from his very first attempt, securing the gold medal with a spectacular, commanding mark of 70.46m, which was a new meeting record.
The warm evening conditions in Zagreb offered an ideal environment for the discus circle. With favorable thermal winds helping the implements sail across the field, an enthusiastic crowd gathered along the sector to witness a highly anticipated battle between global powerhouses and emerging European talents.
From his opening throw, Kristjan Ceh demonstrated the explosive release speed and elite flight mechanics that have made him a permanent fixture at the pinnacle of global athletics. Standing over two meters tall, the Slovenian star utilized his massive wingspan to send the discus deep into the sector, comfortably clearing the 67-meter line. His winning mark of 67.95 meters established total dominance over the competition, keeping him well clear of his closest rivals and adding another prestigious victory to his late-season campaign.
While Kristjan Ceh safely locked down the gold medal, an intense battle for the remaining podium positions unfolded on the Mladost infield. Claudio Romero of Chile delivered a highly impressive, technically sound series of throws to secure the silver medal. The former NCAA champion found his rhythm in the third round, launching the discus to a best distance of 62.64 meters to anchor his second-place finish.
The bronze medal went to the Czech Republic’s Krystof Nedela. The rising Czech athlete put together a very consistent series, fighting through the later rounds to secure a top-three placement with a best effort of 57.37 meters, successfully holding off the chasing pack.
The depth of the regional field remained highly competitive just outside the podium placements. Experienced competitor Igor Gondor remained in fourth place, finishing his evening with a solid top mark of 51.55 meters. Gondor showed excellent stability across his six attempts but lacked the extra leverage needed to reel in Nedela for a spot on the podium.
Completing the official top five was local favorite Sven Todorovic. The Croatian athlete gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about, rounding out the elite upper tier by throwing a best mark of 41.10 meters to cap off a thrilling night of heavy throws in Zagreb.
The 2026 edition of the Dinamo Zrinjevac International Athletics Meeting further solidified its reputation as an essential competitive hub for world-class athletes. The men’s discus throw delivered a spectacular show of athletic power, highlighting Kristjan Ceh’s premier global status while providing a fantastic international platform for throwers like Romero and Nedela to showcase their skills.
