Laura Muir announced her new coaches
Scottish long-distance runner Laura Muir has announced that she is being coached by Steve Cram and her former rival Laura Weightman. The Olympic silver medalist has been working with former UK Athletics endurance programme manager Steve Vernon in the run-up to Paris 2024.
This follows a split with long-time coach Andy Young in 2023, who guided her to a silver medal in the 1,500m in Tokyo, as well as world bronze and European and Commonwealth titles.
Steve Cram himself won Olympic silver in the 1,500m in Los Angeles in 1984, while Laura Weightman has won European and Commonwealth Games medals.
Laura Muir described her new coaches as “really inspiring people, both of whom I’ve been fortunate to know for over a decade”.
“Steve, someone who has commentated on practically every major race of my career, coached Laura W and ran pretty well himself over 1500m… and Laura an amazing competitor and dear friend who I raced and trained alongside for many a year. We have a few 1500m championship medals between us!!”, wrote Laura Muir on her Instagram. “A massive thank you to my previous coach Steve Vernon who supported me in 2023/2024. Good luck with your new ventures!”, added she.
