Leyanis Perez Hernandez won the triple jump gold at the Nanjing World Athletics Indoor Championships
There was a strong Cuban dominance in the women’s triple jump at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing. Leyanis Perez Hernandez, who finished second at last year’s Glasgow World Championships, won the title with a jump of 14.93m in her first attempt. This is also the best result in the world for the season.
Her compatriot and fourth at the Paris Olympics last year, Liadagmis Povea, won the silver medal with 14.57m. Ana Peleteiro-Compaore (Spain), the European champion from Apeldoorn two weeks ago, won her third bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships, after reaching 14.29m in her best attempt today.
The defending champion from Glasgow and Olympic champion from Paris 2024, Thea LaFond, missed out on the top three with 14.18m, which placed her in fourth place.
Leyanis Perez Hernandez is the 2023 Budapest World Championships bronze medalist, 2023 Santiago Pan American Games champion and 2024 Diamond League champion.
