London Marathon winner Amos Kipruto nearly quit athletics

Athletics News . Marathon News Article

London Marathon champion Amos Kipruto has spoken of a moment in his life that almost forced him to end his athletic career.

After winning the 2022 London Marathon, Amos Kipruto struggled to make an impact on the world stage, leading him to consider quitting the sport. His poor performance was due to a series of injuries and in 2023 he again took part in the London Marathon, but this time failed to finish the race.

Amos Kipruto also competed in the Berlin Marathon later that year, where he finished seventh as Eliud Kipchoge claimed top honor. In 2024, he returned and won third place in the Chicago Marathon, reigniting hopes of dominance.

“I was almost traumatized by the injuries, you know the main monster in athletics is injuries and it gives me a lot of questions, you might even think about giving up. I thank my coach because he was really a great mentor and gave me a lot of hope”, said Amos Kipruto in an interview. He also expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the Chicago Marathon for allowing him to showcase his talent in their 2024 edition of the race, admitting that he should have put in the extra effort.

Amos Kipruto is already ready for this season’s events, revealing his interest in participating in the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Amos Kipruto also believes that he is ready to compete in the World Marathon Majors and the organizers should not deny him the opportunity if he shows interest.

“I am ready for any opportunity that opens up for me… if the World Championships are going to be there, I am ready. “If any major marathon allows me to compete, I’m ready”, said he. “I want to give a special thank you to the Chicago Marathon organizers for giving me the chance to go and compete there, it was a huge opportunity and I give them all my respect. I fought for the podium and finished in the top three”, added Amos Kipruto.
