Madelene Wanvik Holum won the women’s Norwegian 10 km Road Championships in Randaberg

Athletics News . Running News Article

Madelene Wanvik Holum captured a brilliant victory at the Norwegian 10 km Road Championships in Randaberg on September 26, delivering a masterclass in distance running to claim the national senior title.

Competing on the notoriously flat and fast “PB-Milå” course, which features a mere 56 meters of total elevation gain, the elite women’s field was set up for spectacular times. Holum capitalized on the ideal conditions perfectly, crossing the finish line in an outstanding time of 32 minutes and 57 seconds. Representing SK Vidar, Holum showcased her exceptional recent growth on the road circuit, asserting her dominance right from the early kilometers and breaking away cleanly to secure the top spot on the podium.

While Holum established a commanding lead up front, the battle for the remaining podium positions provided plenty of drama for the spectators gathered in Rogaland. Securing the silver medal was Kristine Lande Dommersnes, who stopped the clock at 34 minutes and 23 seconds. Dommersnes, one of the marquee names entering the championships, put forward a highly courageous effort but ultimately could not match the relentless, scorching tempo dictated by the race winner.

Clinching the final spot on the national podium was Anzu Lovise Kvam. Kvam ran a remarkably structured and balanced tactical race, pacing herself beautifully over the flat layout to record a strong time of 34 minutes and 50 seconds. Her late-race discipline allowed her to hold off a fierce chase group over the final two kilometers.

The incredible depth of Norway’s distance-running talent was fully on display as the next tier of elite runners pushed each other right to the finish tape. Just missing out on a podium placement was Synne Marie Engebretsen, who crossed the line in fourth place with a highly competitive time of 35 minutes and 05 seconds. Engebretsen kept the leading trio within striking distance throughout the four laps but simply lacked the extra gear needed to breach the top three in the closing stretch.

Completing the star-studded top five was Bø Maren Austevik, who crossed the finish line in 35 minutes and 18 seconds. Austevik fought admirably through the mid-race surges to maintain her position among the elite frontrunners, ensuring a top-tier classification in a field that featured many of the country’s premium long-distance specialists.

For Madelène Wanvik Holum, the gold medal in Randaberg represents a crowning achievement in a meteoric rise that has captured the attention of the Norwegian athletics community. Balancing her rigorous athletic training alongside a full-time profession, Holum has evolved into one of the country’s most formidable forces over 5,000 meters and 10 kilometers. Her flawless execution at the Norwegian 10 km Road Championships cements her standing at the pinnacle of national road running.
