Marileidy Paulino and Hagos Gebrhiwet joins the list of stars to compete at Lausanne Diamond League
Olympic 400m champion Marileidy Paulino and Ethiopian long-distance star Hagos Gebrhiwet are among the latest global stars to join a world-class Lausanne Diamond League on August 20.
Marileidy Paulino and Hagos Gebrhiwet join the super-stars Noah Lyles, Kishane Thompson and Shericka Jackson.
Marileidy Paulino is the reigning Olympic, world and Diamond League 400m champion and is aiming for a fourth consecutive Diamond League title in 2025. The Dominican Republic star has dominated her event like few others in recent years, recording 18 wins and just two losses in the most prestigious one-day series in track and field since 2021. She will compete in the 200m in Lausanne, having already achieved victories in one round in Paris and Monaco.
With Marileidy Paulino switching disciplines, her Bahraini rival Salwa Eid Naser will be the favorite in the women’s 400m. Salwa Eid Naser is the third-fastest woman in history and a two-time Diamond League champion, having won the title in 2018 and 2019. The Bahraini athlete started her Diamond League season in style in Doha, equaling the meeting record with a time of 49.83 sec. Yet she faces a serious test, with Dutch star Lieke Klaver and American athlete Isabella Whittaker also on the list.
Ethiopian Hagos Gebrhiwet leads the men’s 5,000m, with the 2016 Olympic champion seeking to reclaim the Diamond League title nine years after last winning it this season. In Lausanne, he will face Swiss Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu and two-time Olympic bronze medalist from America Grant Fisher.
