Mattia Furlani won the long jump gold at the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing
Mattia Furlani won his first major men’s title. After losing the European indoor long jump gold to Bozhidar Saraboyukov by one centimeter two weeks ago, the Italian now triumphed at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing with 8.30m. He registered his winning attempt in his second outing in the sector. The 20-year-old Mattia Furlani was a silver medalist at the Glasgow World Athletics Indoor Championship last year, as well as third at the Paris 2024 Olympics and second at the European Athletics Championships in Rome also in 2024.
Again, one centimeter decided the title, but this time in Mattia Furlani’s favor. The silver medalist at the Paris Olympics last year and at the Budapest World Outdoor Championships in 2023, Wayne Pinnock (Jamaica) again finished second with 8.29m.
Australian long jumper Liam Adcock, who had been considering quitting the sport after the Paris Olympics, capped his stay in the sector with a bronze medal with 8.28m.
Defending Glasgow champion and Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou improved his season-best, but with 8.14m he took fifth place. The Greek missed the European Championships in Apeldoorn earlier this month due to illness.
The first eight competitors in this final finished with scores over 8m, with Portugal’s Gerson Balde coming in eighth with 8.03m.
European indoor champion from Apeldoorn 2025 Bozhidar Saraboyukov missed the forum in China due to flu.
