Mattia Furlani won the long jump title at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo

Mattia Furlani won the long jump title at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, repeating his success after triumphing with the indoor title in Nanjing this winter. The Italian athlete improved his personal best and with 8.39m (+0.2 m/sec) won his first world outdoors title.

The silver went to Tajay Gayle (Jamaica) with 8.34m (-0.1 m/s), who is the world champion from Doha 2019. The bronze went to China’s Shi Yuhao with 8.33m (+0.5 m/s).

Simon Ehammer finished fourth with 8.30m (0.0 m/s) and narrowly missed the podium.

European indoor champion from Apeldoorn, Bozhidar Saraboyukov, finished fifth with 8.19m (-0.2 m/s) in his best attempt.

The Budapest 2023 world champion and two-time Olympic champion in the discipline Miltiadis Tentoglou remained only 11th with 7.83m (+0.3 m/s).
