Neil Gourley will captain Team Britain at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing
Scottish middle-distance runner Neil Gourley will captain Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing (March 21-23). The 30-year-old athlete will start in the 1,500m. Last week he finished fourth at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, failing to defend his silver from the 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Istanbul.
In February, Neil Gourley broke the British record in the 1,000m indoor in Birmingham. Great Britain’s team for China will consist of 11 athletes.
“I take it as a compliment and I’m really happy that they have that confidence in me and that respect. I hope I can bring an atmosphere of support to the team”, said Neil Gourley, who finished sixth at the 2022 World Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
Neil Gourley specializes in the 1,500n. He won the silver medal in the event at the 2023 European Indoor Championships and bronze at the 2015 European Under-23 Championships. He is the European indoor record holder for the mile and the British indoor record holder for the 1,500m.
Neil Gourley is a three-time national champion (1,500m).
