Nigsti Molla triumphed at the women’s Heart to Heart 5k Presented by BCH

Athletics News . Running News Article

Nigsti Molla captured an electrifying victory at the women’s Heart to Heart 5k Presented by BCH on September 27, 2026. Blazing through the thin mountain air of downtown Boulder, Colorado, Molla clocked an elite winning time of 15:26 minutes to conquer a world-class field of domestic and international distance specialists.

The article below highlights the tactical maneuvers, podium battle, and philanthropic community spirit that illuminated the course.

The high-altitude running haven of Boulder, Colorado, set a breathtaking stage on Sunday, September 27, 2026, for the 3rd annual Heart to Heart 5k Presented by BCH. Co-organized as a premier hallmark event by Boulder Community Health and Boulderthon, the competition carries a prestigious World Athletics Label. Offering a lightning-fast, entirely road-based loop with just 80 feet of elevation change, the setting was custom-tailored for peak performances. Though the course welcomes thousands of fitness walkers and local joggers, the elite women’s field turned the smooth asphalt lanes of Pearl Street into an absolute pressure cooker of strategic distance running.

The definitive headline of the morning belonged to Ethiopia’s teenage phenom, Nigsti Molla. Crossing the timing mats to an eruption of applause from the packed downtown corridors, the 19-year-old stopped the clock at a spectacular 15:26 minutes to take the absolute crown. Molla, widely respected for her exceptional closing gear on global tracks, navigated the 5,200-foot altitude of the Rockies with the poise of a seasoned veteran.

From the starter’s gun at 21st and Pearl Street, the lead pack made their intentions immediately clear, opting for a blistering cadence rather than a conservative, tactical waiting game. Molla positioned herself deliberately behind the early pacemakers, shielding herself perfectly within the slipstream of the front group. As the layout wound through the heart of the city, the heavy turnover began fracturing the field. Approaching the final kilometer, Molla unlocked a devastating injection of speed. Shifting effortlessly into her top gear, she pulled away on the final stretch to cross the line entirely uncontested, logging a world-class standard on Colorado soil.

Finishing in a gritty runner-up position was American standout Emily Venters, who crossed the finish line in a phenomenal 15:32 minutes. Venters delivered a masterclass in aggressive front-running, staying shoulder-to-shoulder with Molla for nearly the entire 3.1-mile journey. Venters did the heavy tactical lifting through the mid-race stretches, keeping the tempo honest and forcing the trailing chase pack to operate at their physiological redline. Though she was unable to match Molla’s explosive, short-distance kick over the final 200 meters, Venters’ stellar runner-up finish stood as an incredible victory for the domestic contingent on the global stage.

The final step on the absolute podium went to Kenya’s Everlyn Jemutai Kemboi, who secured third place with a strong time of 15:50 minutes. Kemboi paced her effort beautifully, managing her energy expenditure efficiently through the frantic opening mile. When the front group split, she held her rhythm steady across the flat asphalt sectors, comfortably locking down a top-three finish well clear of the remaining field.

Behind the podium trio, a wonderful display of tactical awareness settled the remaining elite positions. American long-distance stalwart Biruktayit Degefa crossed the timing gates in fourth place, logging a highly commendable time of 16:37 minutes. Degefa used her extensive road-racing pedigree to run a balanced, solo effort for most of the second half, relying on efficient mechanics to buffer the high-altitude fatigue.

Completing the official top five for the prestigious World Athletics Label field was McKenna Paulson. Paulson rounded out the elite leaderboard by crossing the finish line in 17:23 minutes. Her gritty performance capped a deeply inspiring showcase of distance talent, solidifying American representation with two athletes inside the top five slots.

Beyond the magnificent elite times logged by Nigsti Molla and her pursuers, the Heart to Heart 5k stood as a massive triumph for the local community. Bringing together roughly 2,500 participants, the race serves as the grand finale of the month-long Boulder Community Health Movement Challenge.

More importantly, the event acts as a critical fundraising vehicle for the BCH Foundation’s Heart to Heart Fund. This life-changing patient assistance program helps cardiac patients directly manage the financial burdens of ongoing cardiovascular treatments, alternative therapies, and recovery care. With every dollar donated during registration matched up to $100,000 by the foundation, the intersection of world-class athletics and community philanthropy was on full display. For champion Nigsti Molla, it was a day of athletic brilliance; for the city of Boulder, it was a beautiful testament to wellness, heart health, and communal victory.
