Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill’s demonstration sprint failed
Olympic 100m sprint champion Noah Lyles has canceled his long-awaited race with American football star Tyreek Hill. He explained that he is doing so for personal reasons and because of the lack of sponsors.
Tyreek Hill, who plays for the Miami Dolphins, issued the challenge to Noah Lyles days after the Paris 2024 Olympics, when the two were supposed to run the 50m. Noah Lyles said that their plan was to do the demonstration sprint this weekend in Times Square in New York.
“We were making progress organizationally. It was even supposed to be this weekend. Unfortunately, complications and personal commitments arose, which is why it won’t happen. We were going to close Times Square and it would have been a lot of fun”, said Noah Lyles. “A lot of people didn’t believe we were going to do it. They thought we were just messing around online. Even potential sponsors didn’t believe it could happen”, he concluded.
Noah Lyles holds a personal best of 19.31 sec in the 200m, which is the American record, making him the third fastest runner of all time. He is an Olympic champion and has won six World Championships. In the 100m, Noah Lyles secured the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics and is a three-time world champion, having won in the 4x100m relay in 2019, as well as in the 100 m and 4x100m relay events in 2023. Additionally, he was a gold medalist in the 100m and 4x100m relay at the 2016 World U20 Championships. In the 200m, Noah Lyles is a three-time world champion, having won titles in 2019, 2022, and 2023, and he earned bronze medals at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games. He also claimed a gold medal at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. Lyles achieved a sprint treble by winning gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay events at the 2023 World Championships.
