Noah Lyles misses 2026 World Indoor Championships due to wedding

Noah Lyles has revealed the main reason he will miss the World Indoor Championships in Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena Torun, Poland, scheduled for March 20-22, 2026.

The reigning Olympic 100m champion noted that he will still compete in a limited number of indoor events as part of his preparation for the outdoor season.

Noah Lyles has rarely competed indoors in recent years, skipping the 2025 World Indoor Championships, despite competing in the 2024 edition, where he won a silver medal in the 60m.

The four-time world 200m champion said he intends to line up in the 60m at the US National Championships.

Noah Lyles explained that he does not share the view that indoor events are insignificant for established athletes, emphasizing that they play an important role in the sport.

He added that the indoor track offers an unparalleled atmosphere, with energy concentrated in one space, which enhances both performance and fan engagement.

“I’m going to be at the US National 60m Championships. There are a lot of people who think that just because you’re the big star, the indoor track isn’t important. The indoor track is the best place to have the most energy in one place for track and field”, said he.

Noah Lyles added that he won’t be able to compete at the World Indoor Championships because it’s too close to his wedding.

He added that the situation has made him think about how to balance his retirement from competition with other important commitments outside the track.

“Unfortunately, I can’t because it’s too close to the wedding. I guess this year I’m just wondering how to balance the retirement and other priorities outside the track”, added he.

Noah Lyles indicated that he expects to compete frequently throughout the year, although his schedule will ease up a bit after the indoor season. He explained that once the Diamond League circuit picks up speed, he will be fully committed and competing consistently. The American added that fans should expect to see him on the track often, and made it clear that he is ready to face anyone who wants to compete with him.
