Owen Ansah improved German national record in the 100m
German sprinter Owen Ansah improved his own national record in the 100m, clocking 9.98 sec to win the Sparkassen Gala 2026 in Regensburg on Saturday.
Owen Ansah, who is the first German to break the 10-second mark in a wind-allowed event, shaved 0.01 sec off his previous best. His time is also the best in Europe this season, dethroning two-time European champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs (9.99 sec).
“We train for these times and races. The fact that I achieved it in only my second run of the season is a big surprise. I’m really happy that the time is now a fact”, said Owen Ansah.
In the women’s event, after running 11.09 sec in the heats, Portugal’s Tatjana Pinto won the 100m final in 11.17 sec. The 19-year-old Philina Schwartz finished second in 11.30 sec.
Austria’s women’s national team also set a record, shaving more than half a second off its best in the 4x100m relay with a time of 43.11 sec. The team also included Isabel Posch, who set an Austrian national record in the 100m with a time of 11.10 sec in St. Polten on Thursday.
