Patrizia van der Weken and Ronnie Baker were the fastest in the 60m at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold Label’s Czech Indoor Gala in Ostrava.
The Luxembourg record holder, who is the world number one for the season with 7.07 sec, won in the Czech Indoor Gala with 7.08 sec. She was just 1 hundredth of a second ahead of Polish sprint star Ewa Swoboda. Karolina Manasova (Czech Republic) took third place in the women’s 60m with 7.19 sec. Torrie Lewis set an Australian national record with 7.23 sec. Patrizia van der Weken is a sprinter from Luxembourg who holds national records in both the 100m and 200m events. She participated in the 2021 European Athletics U23 Championships, successfully reaching the final in the 100m. In 2023, she took part in the European Athletics Indoor Championships, where she won her heat but was subsequently eliminated in the semifinals. Later that same year, she competed in the World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, finishing in 33rd place. Patrizia van der Weken made her Olympic debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics, competing in the 100m event.
In the men’s 60m event, the American sprinter Ronnie Baker won with a time of 6.50 sec. Reynier Mena (Cuba) took second place with a personal best of 6.55 sec, and Romell Glave (Great Britain) finished third with a personal best of 6.56 sec.
Ronnie Baker has personal best of 6.40 sec in the 60m, which ranks him as the third-fastest individual in the history of this event. In 2017, he secured the championship title in the 60m at the USA Indoor Championships and earned a medal in the same event at the World Indoor Championships in 2018. Additionally, he was part of the gold medal-winning team in the 4x100m relay at the World Relays in 2017. Ronnie Baker exhibited remarkable prowess in the 100m during the 2018 Diamond League circuit, achieving victory in four races and finishing no lower than second place, including a second-place finish in the final. He was recognized as the fastest man in the world over 60m in 2017 and ranked second in both the 60m and 100m in 2018. During his collegiate career with the TCU Horned Frogs, he claimed the championship title in the 60m at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships in 2015 and 2016. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Baker recorded his personal best of 9.83 sec in the men’s 100m semi-finals, positioning him as the sixth fastest man in the history of the Olympic 100m event.
