Sarah Mitton won her second consecutive shot put Diamond Trophy
Two-time world indoor shot put champion Sarah Mitton won her second consecutive Diamond Trophy. After smashing the competition at the Diamond League Final last year, the Canadian again dominated her rivals in Zurich today, winning with a throw of 20.67m.
“I had a really great throw. I hadn’t done that in a while. And I had a really great practice yesterday, which gave me a lot of confidence for today. So I’m here today just one centimeter away from my personal best and I’m really happy. To have the fans so close to us is overwhelming. To have so many people watching is really fun”, said the Canadian after her victory in Zurich.
Two-time European outdoor champion Jessica Schilder (Netherlands) took second place in the final with 20.26m, while world outdoor champion Chase Jackson (USA) took third place with 20.08m.
The Top 5 were completed by Jaida Ross (USA) and Fanny Roos (Sweden) by 19.26m and 19.11m, respectively.
Sarah Mitton owns the third-furthest throw of the season (Canadian-record 20.68m) behind Chase Jackson (20.95m) and Jessica Schilder (20.69m). The 29-year-old Sarah Mitton has thrown 20-plus metres six times in 2025, including the indoor season.
Sarah Mitton is the silver medalist of the 2023 World Championships and has won the World Indoor title twice (2024, 2025). As the first Canadian woman to earn a medal in the shot put at any World Athletics global championship, she is also the champion of the 2023 Pan American Games, the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and the 2019 Summer Universiade. Sarah Mitton has represented Canada in the Summer Olympics of 2020 and 2024, and she holds the national records for both indoor and outdoor women’s shot put.
