
Sarah Mitton won the shot put gold in Karlsruhe with a new meeting record and season’s best
The 2024 World Indoor champion Sarah Mitton won the shot put gold at the INIT Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe with 20.68m, setting a meeting record, season’s best result, and equalizing her personal best and Canadian National record. The shot putter smashed the fierce competition of the Olympic and world medalists, such as Chase Jackson, Yemisi Ogunleye, and Jessica Schilder.
Sarah Mitton reached her top result in her last attempt. Before, she had a 19.94m, which was also season’s best result and meeting record, but ranked her only third.
The silver in the women’s shot put was for the two-time European champion Jessica Schilder (Netherlands), who recorded 20.09m from her fourth attempt. She was leading until the last sixth attempts of all the competitors.
The bronze went to the two-time world champion Chase Jackson (USA) with 2.06m. The American super-star in shot put made this result already from her first attempt taking the lead and picking the bar high for all her opponent. However, by the end of the event, she made two fouls in the second and fourth attempt and all other tries were below 20 meters.
The results of the Top three were really remarkable, as for the first time since 1991, 3 women throw further than 20m in the same competition.
The Paris 2024 Olympics champion, Yemisi Ogunleye, remained fourth with 19.49m. She made this result from her fifth attempt after having three faults and two poor result of 19.03m and 18.86m.
Jorinde van Klinken (Netherlands) finished fifth with 18.89m.
