Sondre Guttormsen cleared 6.00m for the pole vault gold at Norwegian Championships 2026

In cold conditions, Sondre Guttormsen cleared 6.00m in the pole vault on the second day of the Norwegian Championships in Trondheim. After clearing 5.47m, 5.62m and 5.87m on his first attempt, Sondre Guttormsen raised the bar to 6.00m. The 2023 European indoor champion managed to clear the height on his second attempt.

This is the fourth time Sondre Guttormsen has cleared 6.00m in the pole vault, but the first time he has achieved this feat outdoors. He is preparing for the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, where he will aim for his first major outdoor medal.

“I didn’t think he would make it. I’m a bit emotional because it’s incredibly high. And the temperature is only 13 degrees”, said his coach and father.

Pal Haugen Lillefosse cleared 5.47m to finish second, while 2025 world and European indoor heptathlon champion Sander Skotheim cleared 5.00m, preparing for the decathlon in Birmingham next month.

In women’s pole vault event, the European U23 bronze medalist Kitty Friele Faye won the gold with 4.54m. Lene Onsrud Retzius finished second with 4.23m, while Birgitte Kjuus won the bronze with 4.12m.
