Steven Sabino is the Mozambique’s talent in the long jump

Athletics News . Long Jump News Article

Mozambique has produced some great talent in the long jump. The 18-year-old Steven Sabino set his country’s national record of 7.91m and topped the world rankings for the season in the under-20 category. Sabino is also the under-20 national record holder for Mozambique in 100m.

Steven Sabino shot to fame at the Paris 2024 Olympics when he failed to qualify for the 100-meter heats. He made a false start and was disqualified.

Steven Sabino is affiliated with the Diamond Athletics Club located in South Africa. In April 2023, he earned a silver medal in the 100m at the 2023 African Athletics U18 Championships held in Ndola, completing the final in a time of 10.48 sec after recording 10.46 sec in the heats. By March 2024, he improved his personal best in the 100m to 10.35 sec in Johannesburg, simultaneously establishing a new national record for Mozambique.

In June 2024, Steven Sabino participated in the 100 meters event at the African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon.
