Strong results in middle-distance running at the Boston New Balance Indoor Grand Prix
Josh Hoey, Melissa Courtney-Bryant and Andrew Coscoran left their mark with thrilling victories in the long runs at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold Label’s Boston New Balance Indoor Grand Prix.
Two weeks after setting a North American 1,000m record of 2:14.48 min , which moved him into second place on the all-time world list, Josh Hoey looked like a man on a mission. The 25-year-old American won the 1,500m in 3:33.66 min to shave almost five seconds off his previous best and move ahead of Grant Fisher (3:33.99 min).
The times put Josh Hoey and Grant Fisher in third and fourth respectively on the all-time North American indoor list behind only Yared Nuguse and Hobbs Kessler, while Australia’s Olli Hoare ran 3:34.91 min to finish third.
“It feels really great. It’s a validation of all the training we’ve done over the last few months. We’ll be looking to keep pushing that momentum through the rest of the indoor and outdoor races so I’m not looking to slow down anytime soon”, said Josh Hoey.
British runner Melissa Courtney-Bryant achieved a season-best time in the women’s 3000m. With a personal best of 8:28.69 min, the European indoor bronze medalist improved her previous best by more than nine seconds. Elise Cranny (USA) also improved her personal best to 8:29.87 min for second place.
Andrew Coscoran also had a strong run in the men’s 3,000m. He clocked 7:30.75 min to beat the Irish record by eight seconds.
World indoor champion Bryce Hoppel was fastest in the men’s 800m in 1:46.04 min.
Heather MacLean won the women’s one mile with a time of 4:23.32 min.
