
Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume leads the 15-member Nigerian team for the Tokyo World Athletics Championships
The Nigerian Athletics Federation has announced its 15-member squad for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The team includes stars Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume, while Favour Ofili is expected to be absent.
In the women’s event, Rosemary Chukwuma will competed at the 100m sprint, while Tobi Amusan will be chasing a new world title in the 100m hurdles. Ese Brume and Prestina Ochonogor will compete in the long jump, Chioma Onyekwere and Obiageri Amaechi in the discus and Oyesade Olatoye in the hammer throw.
The men’s team also looks strong. Nigeria will be represented in the 100m sprints by Kanyinsola Ajayi and Israel Okon Sunday, while Udodi Onwuzurike will run the 200m. Samuel Ogazi and Chidi Okezie will compete in the 400m, while Ezekiel Nathaniel will compete in the 400m hurdles. In the technical events, Charles Edward Godfred will aim for a podium finish in the long jump, while Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will compete in the shot put.
The announcement confirmed the absence of US-based 200m sprinter Favour Ofili, who is said to have switched her sporting citizenship to Turkish, although there has been no official statement on the matter yet.
With preparations now complete, the Nigerian team heads to the Tokyo Championships with ambitions of strong performances and serious medal chances in both the sprint and technical events.
