
Tom Walsh won his third world indoor shot put title
Tom Walsh showed his champion spirit once again and won his third world indoor shot put title. The 33-year-old New Zealand’s athlete won the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, with a throw of 21.65m.
Tom Walsh was the indoor champion in Portland in 2016 and Birmingham in 2018. He also has a world silver medal from Glasgow 2024 and bronze medals from Sopot 2014 and Belgrade 2022.
It was the New Zealander’s tenth medal in total from the Olympic Games and world championships. He also has a world outdoor title in London in 2017, a bronze in Doha in 2019, and two Olympic bronzes in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021. His personal best of 22.90m, set in Doha, October 5, 2019, is also the Oceanian record and makes him the seventh best shot putter in history.
The silver medal in the men’s shot put in Nanjing was won by Roger Steen (USA) with 21.62m, while his compatriot Adrian Piperi won the bronze with 21.48m.
