Yemisi Ogunleye and Malaika Mihambo started the indoor season with strong results

German athletics stars Yemisi Ogunleye and Malaika Mihambo opened the indoor athletics season in style after topping the world rankings for the season in their respective disciplines at the World Athletics Tour’s “Bronze Label” tournament Sparkassen Indoor Meeting Dortmund.

Olympic shot put champion Yemisi Ogunleye won the event with 18.98m, also a meeting record. The silver in the event went to Alina Kenzel (Germany) with 18.16m and the bronze was for Jorinde van Klinken (netherlands) with 17.46m.

Malaika Mihambo, the Olympic long jump champion from Tokyo 2021, won in Dortmund with a throw of 6.79m. Her compatriot Mikaelle Assani remained second with 6.67m and the bronze was for Filippa Fotopoulou (Cyprus) with 6.53m.

The German athlete Joshua Hartmann set a new tournament record in the men’s 60m after clocking 6.56 sec. Reynier Mena (Cuba) finished second with 6.57 sec, while Henrik Larsson (Sweden) came in third with a time of 6.58 sec.

In men’s 400m, Fabian Dammermann (Germany) won the gold with 46.71 sec, while Danylo Danylenko (Ukraine) earned the silver with 47.69 sec and Patrik Sorm (Czech Republic) with 48.08 sec.

Patryk Sieradzki (Poland) won the men’s 800m with 1:47.52 min, while Marius Probst (Germany) triumphed with men’s 1,500m with 3:38.77 min.
