
Zane Weir topped the season rankings in the shot put at the Czech Indoor Gala 2025
The European indoor shot put champion from Istanbul 2023, Zane Weir (Italy), achieved victory at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold Label’s event Czech Indoor Gala in Ostrava (Czech Republic) and topped the world rankings for the year with 21.39m. He recorded this result in his fourth attempt, and in a total of five of his six attempts he broke the 21m mark.
Andrei Toader came second with a new Romanian national record of 21.21m. American athlete Roger Steen took third place with 21.09m.
The Top 5 was completed by Tomas Stanek with 20.91m and Leonardo Fabbri with 20.65m, both narrowly missing the honors.
Zane Weir is an Italian shot putter of South African descent. He has represented Italy since February 2020, and competed for them at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He won gold at the 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships.
Meanwhile, in the women’s pole vault, two-time European indoor silver medalist and world indoor bronze medalist Tina Sutej (Slovenia) was ahead of everyone with 4.70m. The Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Alysha Newman (Canada) finished second with 4.50m, and third place with the same result went to the home team’s representative Amalie Svabikova.
