Enock Kipkemboi and Joy Kemuma won Nairobi City marathon
Kenyan athlete Enock Kipkemboi won Nairobi City marathon, running the course in 2:09:33 hours. Robert Kwambai and Shadrack Kenduiywo completed the podium in the men’s event, just a few hundreds of seconds behind the winner.
With a spectacular new personal best of 2:09:33, Enock Kipkemboi captured the life-altering Ksh 3.5 million grand prize and proved that Kenya remains the undisputed powerhouse of elite road racing. Outrunning a massive, record-breaking crowd of 17,450 runners, this striking victory marks a brilliant comeback for an athlete who almost gave up after a devastating loss earlier this season.
Showing incredible tactical patience, Kipkemboi refused to panic when his rivals tried to surge ahead. Instead, he waited for the final two kilometers—the very stretch that had cost him a previous race—to unleash a devastating burst of speed that left the competition in the dust. He crossed the finish line with his arms raised in pure joy, slashing over two minutes off his personal best.
Joy Kemuma won the women’s race of the Nairobi City marathon, clocking 2:27:46 hours. The silver was for Jacinta Chepkoech with 2:30:52 hours and the bronze was for Nancy Jepleting with 2:31:09 hours.
Meanwhile, together with the marathon was held the Nairobi City 10km, won by Zakariah Gacugu with 27:47 min.
