Gabby Thomas revealed details about her return to the track
Multiple Olympic champion Gabby Thomas has revealed details about her return to competition after spending three months out of the track with an Achilles injury. After a months-long absence that ruled her out of the 2025 World Athletics Championships, reigning Olympic 200m champion Gabby Thomas has provided some much-anticipated information about her return to the track.
Throughout her recovery, Gabby Thomas has remained a visible figure in the track and field community, attending major events such as the launch of the new Athlos 2025 track and field league. Now, with the new season approaching, she is ready to turn her focus back to competition.
In a recent social media post, Gabby Thomas confirmed that she is officially starting her training regimen after her long break. “For those asking – I haven’t started my 2026 training yet. We start tomorrow”, she wrote, signaling that her return is imminent.
The upcoming season is significant for Gabby Thomas, not only for her individual goals, but also as a key player in Alexis Ohanian’s innovative league, Athlos, which is set to launch next year. She joins other notable athletes like Sha’Carri Richardson and Tara Davis-Woodhall in supporting the new endeavor.
Gabby Thomas recently reflected on her triumphant campaign at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she won an impressive three gold medals — in the 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m. She attributed her success to years of dedication and perseverance.
Reflections on Olympic Success “I’ve been resilient over the last many years; this medal was the result of years of work. I think what sets me apart from other athletes in the sport is the ability to bounce back from a loss, the ability to learn from each year and stay consistent, committed and motivated, and that has paid off”, said the American athlete.
She also reflected on her experience at previous Olympics, emphasizing the personal significance of her first medal.
“The Tokyo Olympics was such an amazing experience for me. I came into the competition as a surprise favorite for gold, and I won bronze in the 200m. I think a lot of people see it as a failure for me, but I love that medal; it’s my favorite”, said Gabby Thomas.
Gabby Thomas explained that despite the gold medals that followed, the bronze in Tokyo remains special because it solidified her status as a world-class athlete on the track.
