Mondo Duplantis misses out on new world record in Sweden
Pole vault superstar Armand Duplantis failed to break his own world record in front of his adoring home fans after missing the impressive 6.28m mark three times in Uppsala Mondo Classic.
Two weeks ago, the Olympic and world champion set the 11th world record of his stunning career when he cleared 6.27m in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
At home in Sweden, the 25-year-old Armand Duplantis had to settle for a victory in the 6.05m event.
“I’m a little annoyed but at the same time happy because it was a great competition and I gave it my all. I can’t complain, it was like an Olympic final”, said Armand Duplantis.
He was the only one to clear 6.05m before attempting 6.28m. Armand Duplantis will have another chance to get closer to his season-long goal of 6.30m at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, next week.
Greece’s record holder Emmanouil Karalis, one of two champions in the event at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, took second place with 6.00m ahead of Sam Kendricks (USA), who registered 5.90m for the bronze.
