
Romanian triple jumper Diana Ana Maria Ion
Diana Ana Maria Ion is a Romanian Olympics track and field athlete specializing in the triple jump. In 2023, she became Romanian national champion and later earned a silver medal at the 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships, where set her personal best is 14.31m.
Diana Ana Maria Ion was born on November 27, 2000, in Ramnicu Valcea, Romania. She started in athletics at an early age and competed in the long jump and the high jump. She even competed at the 2014 Bucuresti Romanian U18 Championships in the high jump, but did recorded a successful attempt.
Diana Ana Maria Ion turned initially to the long jump in 2015, winning the long jump bronze at the Bucuresti Romanian Indoor U18 Championships and finishing 6th at the Bucuresti Romanian Indoor Junior Championships. She finished 10th at the Pitesti International Meeting, which was her first major event, as well as 4th at the Bucuresti Romanian U18 Championships and 5th at the Pitesti Romanian Junior Championships. Her season’s best in the long jump was 5.89m.
In 2016, Diana Ana Maria Ion started competing in both long jump and the triple jump. During the season, she achieved great results in the triple jump, winning the silver at the Pitesti Romanian U18 Championships and Pitesti Romanian U20 Championships, as well as the bronze at the Bucuresti Romanian U18 Indoor Championships and Krusevac Balkan U18 Championships. In the long jump, Diana Ana Maria Ion won the gold at the Pitesti Romanian U18 Championships, silver at the Bucuresti Romanian U18 Indoor Championships, and bronze at the Pitesti Romanian U20 Championships. She competed at the Tbilisi European U18 Championships, finishing 6th in the triple jump, and the Bydgoszcz IAAF World U20 Championships, where did not overcome the qualifications in the long jump. She debuted at the senior championships, finishing 13th in the long jump at the Pitesti Balkan Championships and 6th in the long jump at the Bucuresti Romanian Indoor Championships.
Diana Ana Maria Ion continue gaining experience in 2017 and improving her results. In the long jump, she won the gold at the Bucuresti Romanian U18 Indoor Championships, Bacau Romanian U18 Indoor Championships, and Bucuresti Romanian U20 Championships, the silver at the Lutsk International U20 Match, and the bronze at the Bucuresti Romanian U20 Indoor Championships, Pitesti Balkan U20 Championships. In the triple jump, Diana Ana Maria Ion won the gold at the Bucuresti Romanian U18 Indoor Championships, Bacau Romanian U18 Indoor Championships, and Pitesti Balkan U20 Championships, as well as the silver at the Bucuresti Romanian U20 Indoor Championships and Bucuresti Romanian U20 Championships. She competed also at the Bucuresti Romanian Indoor Championships, finishing 7th in the triple jump and the long jump, as well as the Nairobi IAAF World U18 Championships, finishing 8th in both events. At the Grosseto European U20 Championships, unfortunately, Diana Ana Maria Ion did not overcome the qualifications in both events. Her season’s best in the long jump was 6.06m and in the triple jump was 12.94m.
Diana Ana Maria Ion started the 2018 season by winning the long jump and triple jump golds at the Bucuresti Cupa RMA. At the Bucuresti Romanian Indoor Championships, she missed the honors by finishing 5th in the both events with 5.92m in the long jump and 12.85m in the triple jump. However, she crossed the 13-meter mark in the triple jump a few days later, winning the silver at the Bucuresti Romanian U20 Indoor Championships with 13.03m. At the same championship, she earned the bronze in the long jump, as well. Diana Ana Maria Ion continue the season by winning the triple jump silver at the Pitesti Romanian U20 Championships and the triple jump bronze at the Istanbul Balkan U20 Championships, as well as long jump silver at the Pitesti Romanian U20 Championships. She competed at the Tampere IAAF World U20 Championships, but again did not qualify for the finals. Her season’s best were 5.97m in the long jump and 13.03m in the triple jump.
Diana Ana Maria Ion continue improving her results in 2019, but again narrowly missed the honors at the Bucharest Romanian Indoor Championships, finishing 4th in the long jump and 6th in the triple jump. However, she won the triple jump silver at the Istanbul Balkan U20 Indoor Championships, as well as the gold in long jump and triple jump at the Bucharest Romanian U20 Indoor Championships. She continue dominated junior categories, winning the golds in both events at the Pitesti Romanian U20 Championships and the gold in the long jump and silver in the triple jump Pitesti Romanian U23 Championships, as well as silver in the long jump and bronze in the triple jump at the Cluj-Napoca Balkan U20 Championships. At the Boras European U20 Championships, Diana Ana Maria Ion finished 8th in the triple jump, while at the Pitesti Romanian Championships, finished 4th in the long jump. Her season’s best results were 13.20m in the triple jump and 6.07m in the long jump.
In 2020, Diana Ana Maria Ion won her first senior national honor, earning the long jump silver at the Bucharest Romanian Indoor Championships. Later she won the silver medals in the long jump and triple jump at the Cluj-Napoca Romanian Championships, improving her personal best in the triple jump to 13.39m. Meanwhile, she won the silver medals in both events also at the Campionatele Internationale ale Romaniei and Cupa Romaniei. At the Istanbul Balkan Indoor Championships, she finished 7th in the triple jump with 12.86m.
In 2021, Diana Ana Maria Ion won the silver medals in the triple jump and long jump at the Bucharest Romanian Indoor Championships, as well as bronze medals in both events at the Cluj-Napoca Romanian Championships, but also earned the triple jump bronze at the Istanbul Balkan Indoor Championships. She finished 6th in the triple jump at the Tallinn European Athletics U23 Championships and also also won the silver in pentathlon at the Bucharest Romanian Indoor Combined Events Championships. During the season, she improved her personal best to 13.68m in the triple jump and 6.13m in the long jump.
Diana Ana Maria Ion continue winning honors locally in 2022. She won the triple jump silver medals and long jump bronze medals at the Craiova Romanian Championships and Bucharest Romanian Indoor Championships. At the Istanbul Balkan Indoor Championships and Craiova Balkan Championships, she narrowly missed the honors. However, she succeeded to improve her personal best in the long jump to 6.19m.
In 2023, Diana Ana Maria Ion won her first national title, triumphing with the triple jump gold at the Craiova Romanian Championships, where set a personal best of 14.16m. She also won the triple jump silver at the Bucharest Romanian Indoor Championships, as well as long jump silver in the Craiova Romanian Championships and long jump bronze at the Bucharest Romanian Indoor Championships. In the triple jump, Diana Ana Maria Ion also won the silver at the Meeting Internacional Ciudad de Valencia and bronze at the 2° Meeting Citta’ Di Lucca, Jeux de la Francophonie in Kinshasa and Kraljevo Balkan Championships. She ended the season with Budapest World Athletics Championships, but did not overcome the qualifications.
Diana Ana Maria Ion won another national title in 2024, triumphing with the triple jump gold at the Bucharest Romanian Indoor Championships. She won the silver at the Romanian Championships Cluj-Napoca and also finished 9th at the Glasgow World Athletics Indoor Championships, as well as 5th at the Roma European Athletics Championships, where again improved her personal best to 14.23m. Meanwhile, Diana Ana Maria Ion won the triple jump gold at the GRAND SLAM – Jerusalem and 13th Savona International Meeting. She ended the season, making her Olympics debut at the Paris Games, but did not overcome qualifications in the triple jump with 14.03m.
In 2025, Diana Ana Maria Ion made her biggest achievement so far, winning the triple jump silver at the Apeldoorn European Athletics Indoor Championships with a new personal best of 14.31m. Meanwhile, she won another national title at the Bucharest Romanian Indoor Championships, as well as the gold at the 26. Internationales Leichtathletik Hallenmeeting. She competed at the Nanjing World Athletics Indoor Championships, but remained 9th in the triple jump final.
