British long jumper Jazmin Sawyers

Jazmin Sawyers is a British track and field athlete, who competes in the long jump, representing Great Britain and England. In 2023, she won her first major senior title at the 2023 European Indoor Championships. She won the silver medal representing England in the long jump at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, claimed silver and bronze representing Great Britain at the 2016 and 2022 European Championships respectively. Jazmin Sawyers competed at both the 2016 Rio and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, finishing eighth in the event on both occasions. She is a five-time national champion and holds the British indoor record for the long jump with an outright best of 7.00m.

Jazmin Sawyers was born on May 21, 1994, in Stoke-on-Trent, England. She started in athletics at an early age and showed great talent and skills. As a junior, she won bronze in the long jump at the 2012 World Junior Championships and silver at the 2013 European Junior Championships. She earned silver at the 2015 European Under-23 Championships and also is a double gold medalist, in long jump and sprint relay, from the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games.

Jazmin Sawyers started her competitive career already in 2008, competing at the high jump event in Glasgow Meeting. The next season she already won the high jump and long jump golds at the Birmingham U17 Meeting, while in 2010, she turned to combined events to win the pentathlon bronze at the Sheffield England U20 Indoor Combined Events Championships and finished 5th at the Bompas FRA-GBR Junior Combined Events Match.

In 2011, Jazmin Sawyers competed at the Lille IAAF World Youth Championships in heptathlon to finish 9th. Later during the season, she shined at the international competitions to win the long jump gold at the Douglas Commonwealth Youth Games. Meanwhile, she won the long jump gold at the Exeter South West Schools Championships and the long jump silver at the Bedford UK Junior Championships, and also triumphed with the heptathlon gold at the Bedford England Athletics Combined Events Championships.

Jazmin Sawyers won her first senior national honor in 2012, winning the long jump bronze at the Birmingham UK Championships with 6.64m. She also competed at the Barcelona IAAF World Junior Championships to win another long jump bronze. Meanwhile, during the season, she triumphed with the silver at the Uppsala Folksam Challenge, bronze at the Hendon UK Women’s League.

In 2013, Jazmin Sawyers won the long jump silver medals at the Birmingham UK Championships and Rieti European Junior Championships. She also triumphed with the gold at the Linz Gugl Games and Bedford England Junior Championships.

Jazmin Sawyers started strongly the 2014 season to win the bronze at the Glasgow British Athletics International Match and the long jump silver at the Sheffield UK Indoor Championships. She won the gold at the Bedford BUCS Championships, Loughborough International, Saint-Niklaas International Peugeotmeeting, Oordegem IFAM Meeting and Braine-l’Alleud Memorial Gaston Reiff, before competing at the Braunschweig European Team Championships, where finished 8th. Jazmin Sawyers won another national honor at the Birmingham UK Championships, where earned the silver. At the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, she made a fantastic jump to win the silver with 6.54m and by the end of the season she won the gold at the Merksem Antwerp Athletics Gala and the silver at the Kalmar Folksam Challenge.

In 2015, Jazmin Sawyers won the long jump silver at the Tallinn European U23 Championships with a personal best of 6.71m. Meanwhile, she won the silver at the Golden Label’s London Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games and the bronze at the Sheffield UK Indoor Championships, but also made her debut in the Diamond League at the Weltklasse Zurich, finishing 4th. Meanwhile, during the season, she won the silver at the Rovereto Palio Citta della Quercia and the gold at the Goteborg Folksam GP.

Jazmin Sawyers made her Olympics debut in 2016, competing at the Rio Games. She qualified for the final, where finished 8th with 6.69m. Earlier withing the season, she won the long jump silver at the Amsterdam European Athletics Championships with 6.86m, and also won her first national titles at the Sheffield British Indoor Championships and Birmingham UK Championships. She competed at the Portland IAAF World Indoor Championships, but remained out of the podium, finishing 12th. Meanwhile, she made a very strong season and won the gold at the Berlin ISTAF, the silver at the Bellinzona Gala dei Castelli and Zagreb IAAF World Challenge, as well as the bronze at the Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix.

Jazmin Sawyers started the 2017 season strongly by winning the bronze at the Sheffield British Indoor Championships, as well as the silver at the Birmingham Muller Indoor Grand Prix. She competed at the Beograd European Indoor Championships, where finished 6th in the final, and later won the silver at the Montreuil-sous-Bois Meeting International. Jazmin Sawyers competed at the Diamond League in Oslo and London, but missed the podium after finishing 10th and 9th, respectively. She competed also at the London IAAF World Championships in Athletics, but did not overcome the qualifications.

In 2018, Jazmin Sawyers won the silver at the Birmingham UK Indoor Championships and Birmingham British Championships. She finished 4th at the Berlin European Athletics Championship and competed at the Diamond League in London and Birmingham, as well as the Diamond League Final in Brussels, but missed the honors.

In 2019, Jazmin Sawyers won another major title in the long jump, triumphing with the gold at the 2019 Nanjing World Challenge. Meanwhile, she won the silver at the Riga Cup, Goteborg Athletics Grand Prix and Manchester International Match, as well as the bronze at the Birmingham British Championships, Birmingham Muller Indoor Grand Prix and Folksam Grand Prix. She competed also at the Doha IAAF World Championships in Athletics and Glasgow European Indoor Championships, but did not qualify for the final.

Jazmin Sawyers won another national title in 2020 at the Manchester British Championships. Meanwhile, during the season, she won the gold at the Paavo Nurmi Games, the silver at the Glasgow UK Indoor Championships and Goteborg Friidrott GP, and the bronze at the Glasgow Muller Indoor Grand Prix Glasgow and ISTAF Berlin.

In 2021, Jazmin Sawyers competed at her second Olympics, being part of the British team for the Tokyo Games. She finished 8th in the final with 6.80m, again missing the podium. Meanwhile, during the season, she won another national title at the Manchester British Championship, but also earned her first Diamond League’s honor at the Athletissima Lausanne, winning the long jump bronze, and also finished 4th at the Diamond League’s final Weltklasse Zurich. AT the end of the season, she won the gold at the ISTAF Berlin.

In 2022, Jazmin Sawyers started the 2022 season with American tour, finishing 5th at the Millrose Games and New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, both in New York, before returning to Europe, where earned the bronze at the ORLEN Copernicus Cup and Birmingham UK Indoor Championships. She continue by finishing 4th at the Birmingham Diamond League and 5th at the FBK Games in Hengelo, but won the silver at the Manchester Muller UK Athletics Championships. At the Eugene World Athletics Championships, Jazmin Sawyers finished 9th in the final, while at the Birmingham XXII Commonwealth Games was 4th. Her biggest achievement during the season, was winning the long jump bronze at the Munich European Athletics Championships. She ended the year by winning the silver at the prestigious 58. Palio Citta della Quercia and the bronze at the 2022 ISTAF Berlin.

Jazmin Sawyers made her most significant victory in 2023, winning the gold at the Istanbul European Athletics Indoor Championship and covering the 7-meter mark, setting a personal best of 7.00m. Earlier she won the gold at the Brimingham UK Indoor Championships, silver at the ISTAF INDOOR Dusseldorf, and bronze at the ISTAF INDOOR Berlin. She won another national title at the Manchester UK Championships, but also earned the silver at the Memorial Borisa Hanzekovica and Meeting Nikaia, as well as the bronze at the ISTAF Berlin. She competed also at the Budapest World Athletics Championships, but did not overcome the qualifications.

Jazmin Sawyers missed the 2024 season due to a torn Achilles, but after 13-month out of the track and field returned in 2025, winning the silver at the Loughborough International and the gold at the B&S Kurpfalz Gala Weinheim.
