
Spanish athlete Carmen Ramos Vellon
Carmen Ramos Vellon is a Spanish track and field athlete, specializing in the combined events. She is a three-time national champion and holds the overall Spanish record in Heptathlon. She is the winner of the Queen Sofia National Sports Award.
Carmen Ramos Vellon was born on June 18, 1998, in Benicassim, Spain. She started in athletics at an early age, mostly training javelin throw and shot put, but later moved to the combined events.
Carmen Ramos Vellon started her competitive career already in 2014, finishing 6th in the pentathlon at the Valencia Spanish U18 Indoor Championships. During the season she finished 4th in heptathlon at the Arona U18 Combined Events Meeting, before earning her first junior honor at the Valladolid Spanish U18 Championships, where won the silver.
Carmen Ramos Vellon started the 2015 season strongly by winning the pentathlon silver at the Valencia Regional Combined Events Indoor Championships and was part of the Spanish athletics team for the Cali IAAF World Youth Championships, where finished 12th in the heptathlon.
In 2016, Carmen Ramos Vellon won her first international honor, winning the pentathlon silver at the Salamanca ESP-FRA-GBR Junior Combined Events Match. Meanwhile, she won the shot put gold at the Sabadell Spanish Junior Indoor Championships and long jump gold at the Zaragoza Spanish U20 Club Championships. By the end of the season she competed in heptathlon at two prestigious competitions, finishing 14th in both – Erdgas Mehrkampf-Meeting in Ratingen and Bydgoszcz IAAF World U20 Championships.
In 2017, Carmen Ramos Vellon continue being one of the biggest talents of the Spanish athletics team in combined events. She won the gold at the Salamanca Spanish U20 Indoor Championships and the bronze at the Praha CZE-FRA-GBR-ESP-POL U20 Combined Events Match in pentathlon, but also finished 6th at Monzon European Combined Events Team Championships 1st League and 4th at the Arona Meeting Internacional in the heptathlon. She also competed at the Grosseto European U20 Championships in heptathlon, but finished only 15th.
Carmen Ramos Vellon started the 2018 season by winning the 60m hurdles gold at the Valencia Regional Indoor Club Championships and finished 6th at the Madrid CZE-ESP-FRA-GBR-POL Combined Events Match. At the Salamanca Spanish U23 Indoor Championships, she earned the silver in 60m hurdles, before triumphing with her first indoor national title in pentathlon at the Valencia Spanish Indoor Championships. By the end of the season, she won the heptathlon gold at the Soria Spanish U23 Championships and competed at the Berlin European Athletics Championships. Meanwhile, among her results was the 4th place at the Arona Meeting Internacional.
In 2019, Carmen Ramos Vellon won the silver at the Valencia Control Meeting in pentathlon and silver at the Soria Meeting Memorial Diego Barranco in heptathlon. Meanwhile, she finished 7th at the Lutsk European Combined Events Team Championships Super League and 6th at the Meeting Internacional Arona 2019 in heptathlon. She competed also at the Golden Label’s Hypo-meeting in Gotzis, but remained only 25th.
Carmen Ramos Vellon won another national honor in 2020, earning the heptathlon silver at the Madrid Spanish Championships. Meanwhile, during the season, she finished 6th at the Indoor Combined Events Tallinn and Ourense Spanish Indoor Championships in pentathlon. At the end of the year, she won the pentathlon gold at the Criterium Autonomico de Combinadas in Valencia.
Carmen Ramos Vellon won her first national outdoor title in the heptathlon in 2021, triumphing at the Getafe Spanish Championships with 5,659 points. She also finished 12 at the Golden Label’s Meeting Internacional Arona and earned the pentathlon bronze at the Madrid Spanish Indoor Championships.
In 2022, Carmen Ramos Vellon continue performing strongly. She started the season by winning the 60m hurdles gold at the Valencia Control Meeting and finished 13th in pentathlon at the X-Athletics in Aubiere. At the Ourense Spanish Indoor Championships, she finished only 10th in pentathlon, but triumphed with the heptathlon gold at the Cto de Espana de Pruebas Combinadas de Federaciones Autonomicas.
In 2023, Carmen Ramos Vellon won her second heptathlon national title at the Torrent Spanish Championships with 5,744 points. Meanwhile, she earned the bronze at the Alhama de Murcia Spanish Combined Events Championships by Regional Federations, but also finished 6th at the Madrid Spanish Indoor Championships and 12th at the Aubiere Meeting X-Athletics Combined Events.
Carmen Ramos Vellon started the 2024 season by finishing 14th in pentathlon at the Aubiere X-ATHLETICS. At the Meeting Ciudad de Valencia, she competed in shot put, finishing 7th, while at the Ourense Spanish Indoor Championships did not completed her pentathlon event due to injury. This ended her season and she missed also the outdoor one.
